Evaluating the strength of your marketing foundation

Everyday challenges can keep a new entrepreneur from maximizing their success through sustainable, strategic solutions. Many business owners/marketing teams often forget to consider those challenges as they struggle to identify their path for growth.

Finding the best path forward

In fact, a new business owner may find it difficult to define their message, even when they are committed to growing their business. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding the best path forward.

But how do you find that path? As Yogi Berra once famously said: “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” A busy entrepreneur may know where they want to end up…but they may not know the best way to get there.

That’s where the process of evaluating your current business state becomes so important to finding the road to marketing success.

An assessment will help you understand exactly where you are today and identify those gaps that keep you from where you want to go. To start, you’ll need to gather your key stakeholders and begin to ask the group a series of questions that help you find where your company’s strengths and weaknesses lie within a variety of sales and marketing enablement elements. You’ll also need to look at your current ecosystem and workflow processes.

Questions you need to ask

Once you are able to answer some basic questions, you and your marketing team (if you have one) can begin to collaboratively design a cohesive strategy that will ultimately eliminate barriers and provide opportunities for success.
What are the questions you need to ask to understand your current marketing foundation? You’ll want to know:

  • What’s the organization’s purpose (plus vision and mission)?
  • What are our superpowers (and our weaknesses)?
  • What are our goals and objectives?
  • Who is our target market?
  • What are our opportunities and what are our threats?
  • What does our ecosystem of tools look like?

After you complete the evaluation and have discovered any gaps in your systems or processes, it’s time to focus on using what you’ve learned to develop a cohesive sales and marketing onboarding strategy.

In other words, this is the time for you to create your marketing roadmap that will guide you toward your vision in easy, understandable steps.
